Earlier I was writing about mobile optimized websites, you know iPhone optimization is as serious as optimization to e.g. Nokia 6131. Yesterday a new iPhone app introduced the market:
Our new iPhone application is just changed status yesterday, and became available in Appstore. Mokmo iStart application is giving answer to a popular problem like iPhone users do not know whether a website is iPhone optimized or not. Mokmo iStart application basically a continously updated and organized list of bookmarks, bookmarks of iPhone optimized websites. Around this app, we try to organize a community, where people share their favorite iPhone optimized sites with others.
Certainly there are some other features included:
•   manage your own bookmarks
•   add bookmark to the community
•   pass the appliction to your friends

Augmented reality is dying!? not even born…

Mobile marketing is growing 9% this year regarding the global market, it’s great! The truth is: it has to be growing from down below… (I’m really serious about mobile marketing, but we have to have a clear picture). Mobile marketing is a good opportunity for many companies to reach customers, to keep their interest alive, to give them coupons, free mobile content, etc.

Mobile marketing has started with SMS, many companies started to build huge databases, they organized a lot of SMS marketing campaigns, and advertisers were satisfied / or not… On the market there are companies who have stepped over SMS, they are doing mobile web campaings, iPhone apps, JAVA apps, etc.

I think many mobile marketing professional forgets about mobile user, and they are introducing new, brand new, newest newest new high quality newest service like augmented reality.

Augmented reality is a great thing, based on this many very interesting service could be introduced, but NOT NOW, let the market grow, let users understand standard services (for many users JAVA apps are not even easy to handle). The mobile market is always about innovation as mobile TV, MMS, 2G, 3G, 4G… 100G, etc. What do you think, users understand what is the difference between 3G and 3.5G?

Mobile marketing tools should be educated, users must understand easier services, and in 2020 we will introduce the newest mobil marketing service: virtual holographic girlfriend for everyone, you don’t need real girlfriend just a mobile.

Droid is coming on the 6th of November

Verizon and Motorola introduced, the new Motorola Droid – Android 2.0 based smartphone will arrive on the 6th of november. Android was a MUST for Motorola who did not introduced any innovative phone since V3 came to the market many-many years ago.

Droid is comming with the new generation of Google map with voice navigation, voice shortcuts (Navigate to DESTINATION), WIFI, QWERTY keyboard, etc.

Motorola, Verizon and many telco expert says: Droid will be the iPhone beater on the market…

We have heard this during the last couple years regarding HTC handsets, Samsung Omnia, etc. Motorola produces great phones, Android is a great mobile OS, maybe this cooperation will be able to get closer to iPhone but it will be so hard to beat it…

What do you think, is Motorola DROID the iPhone beater???

Not satisfied with your ad based mobile app?

On Wireless Week Andrew Berg published an article, it contained the followings:
“More specifically, Pinch data found that only 20 percent of those users who had downloaded free iPhone applications actually used the app beyond the first 24 hours after download. Retention dropped quickly after that. After 30 days, less than five percent of users are still using the app.”

I’m sure these statements are true regarding many applications e.g. apps containing singe marketing messages and not giving value to users. Apps containing valuable information e.g. ATM finder, continuously refreshing content, interesting mind game, etc are used more frequently by users.

Many application developer thinks that we just have to code an application, just distribute it and we will collect a lot of money. Valueless apps were quite successful when apps market were much smaller than today, but if you look around you have to see ONLY VALUABLE APPS ARE ABLE TO GENERATE MONEY.

Regarding AppStore, valuable apps are able to generate good traffic, and they can be listed in the TOP 25 for longer than couple days (also AppStores outside of US). So basically applications are able to survive the first couple days, they are able to generate click throughs, usage can be long lasting, we ONLY HAVE TO PRODUCE VALUABLE APPS.

Android 2.0 is coming

The new version of Google’s OS is coming, and possibly it will have 14.5 market share around 2012. Regarding none official information, the new version of Android will natively support Exchange, have an upgraded Facebook support, new browser, completely reconsidered map function, new e-mail client, and a new generation never seen GUI with innovative solutions and easy usability.

Facebook contact syncing is a pretty sweet feature on its own, but combine that with Android 2.0′s new unified inbox – which collects messages from multiple email addresses (including Exchange accounts) and Facebook messages – and you’ve got a pretty sweet address book system.

Gmail accounts are handled in a separate app, which is presumably better able to support Gmail’s many features. Car Home is a dashboard for using your phone in the car. It provides voice access to the apps you need when you’re driving, so you can dial numbers or search for something on Google Maps without taking your hands off the wheel.

The first Android 2.0 phone will be Motoro la Droid, and also the new SonyEricsson Xperia X3 will be Android based smart phone.

Mobile apps are cool

Since Java (J2ME) enabled phones are on the market mobile game and application market started to growth. Developing a JAVA game / application is not as easy as it should, technology is not as universal as it should. Time is ticking, new platform enters the market: Symbian. Symbian is still not what we were expecting, limited phones can be reached than with JAVA, but possibilities are bigger with Symbian.

iPhone has entered the market, AppStore started to operate, and application market startted to growth. Nokia OVI service, LG’s web based application store is operating (certainly) but AppStore is still in the focus, the news are about iPhone apps, users want to own an iPhone.

What is in iPhone and AppStore? It’s fully controlled by Apple, applications are reviewed by them, they collect the money, they marketing your app… and we just love it, why??? iPhone users are heavy users, they spend a lot of time on the internet by using their iPhones, they are browsing apps (and they do not have to look for different sites to get them, every app is in one “site”).
Apple was being able to reach what other device manufacturers (Nokia, Motorola) could not for many years.

Mostly iPhone apps are well designed, they are running good on device, they are cool – my friends always want to play with my iPhone and they are looking for news apps every time.

Google introduces Quick Search Box for Android

Google announced the debut of Quick Search Box, a new Android query tool that provides suggestions as

users type. Instead of offering separate search boxes for the web and the phone, Quick Search Box provides a single search box enabling users to look for content on the device (including apps, contacts, and browser history) as well as content from the web (e.g., personalized search suggestions, local business listings, stock quotes, weather, and flight status), all without opening the browser. In addition, QSB learns from users’ habits to deliver more efficient access to items searched for and used most often–QSB also introduces voice-enabled searches for web and call contacts.

“One of the coolest things about QSB is that it’s not limited to searching what we think is useful–third-party apps can also include suggestions in the list, making it faster to access the content you want from those apps, too,” writes Google software engineer Mike LeBeau on the Official Google Mobile Blog. “Look on Android Market for apps that support QSB, and enable their suggestions from the system search settings.”

Mobile ads are penetrating around the world, let’s say not as fast as should, but it’s growing against other channels.

On the figure below you can see that mobile advertising is growing 9% this year, only one market growing better than this it’s video game ad market.

During these hard economical times, agencies and advertisers are looking for solutions in order to advertise:
- cheaper
- more efficient
- more focused, etc.

THIS IS MOBILE ADVERTISING, because:

- everyone has mobile phone
- message can be more powerful than e.g. billborard
- customer is able to react in time
- advertisers are able to show the same “face” to customres as on TV or internet
- …

Another interesting figure is mobile ad spending, as you see until 2013 the mobile ad revenues will grow almost triple of today’s revenues. Maybe these numbers are too optimitics, but the facts are:

- many advertisers see the potential of mobile advertising
- mobile agencies are ready to organize creativ mobile campaigns
- mobile users are hungry for good mobile contents, and good campaigns

Google introduces Search Options for mobile

Finding the exact information you need sometimes requires filtering and refining your search results. Earlier in the year, we launched a collection of tools called Search Options which enable you to easily and quickly do this from a computer. Today in the US, we are making Search Options available on Android/iPhone/Palm WebOS devices so that you can slice and dice your mobile search results as well. For example, suppose you are shopping at a store for a camera, and you would like to see what users have been saying about a specific model within the past week. You can do this simply by searching for the name of the product. Then, on the search results page, use “Options” to filter by “Forums” and refine further by choosing “Past week”. See the screenshots below for a sample query. Try these and other Search Options yourself by simply doing a mobile search on google.com and selecting Options.

Optimized websites for mobile phones

Content factories, media owners, FMCG companies are hesitating to enter mobile web market, to optimize their website in order to provide mobile phone compatible content toward users, potential customers.
If you check out your web stat you will find many users who are visiting your site from their mobile – do you provide mobile optimized content to them…?

Below you can see a good example of mobile optimizes content:

The examples above are good to demonstrate how your content appears on mobile phone even if it’s optimized or not. The basic and most important issue of mobile web content is to provide convenient content to user – what does it mean??

It means the followings:
- the page will not exceed the size of mobile phone screen (user do not want to scroll from left to right)
- on the mobile site should not appear flash, java script, etc content because many phones cannot play e.g flash movies
- keep it simple !!!

In many studies we can read about the mentioned issue, the conclusion is always the same → users want to have optmized, web like content on their mobile phones.
